Wingin' it. Thanks L & M!

...Actually I had the halibut and it was very nice. I recently had a rare solo gig where I actually went alone. When I showed up, I discovered for the first time that the venue had no PA system and that the manager who had booked me was off doing something else that night. Without a cell pone, I went into the back office and looked up the closest Long & Mcquade music store as I had rented from them over the years. I used the pub line to call and find out the hours which weren't listed on the website and was relived to hear that I still had 45 minutes to get there and grab a powered speaker. I hopped in my car and began driving in this foreign suburb and realized halfway there that I would be unable to return the items to this location as I would not be in the area the next day and the store would be closed when the show was over.

Once in the store, I called the pub manager who booked me to see if he could return it for me but there was no answer. I asked the rental agent at the desk if I could simply drop it off at another location and he indicated that this was standard practice and no problem so I was relieved although now the hunger was setting in as my side track mission had pushed back supper time. I grabbed the gear and drove back to the venue only to see a couple unloading a PA into the pub. I was unsure what was going on but sort of hoped that the booker had set this up without telling anyone. I stepped up to the night's manager beside the couple and quickly discovered that the talent had been double booked! After all I had been through and now I had to fight off this curveball. I was nice and offered to split sets but they weren't interested in half of what was already only enough pay for 1 person (luckily I play guitar and sing ;) and it was concluded when the manager told the other band that the marquee out front read "Andrew Jackson".

I set up my gear and quickly and then slowly ate as my hunger had shrunk my stomach - probably having to deal with all the issues had something to do with it as well... I performed several sets throughout the evening, collected my tips and headed back down the highway home.

I had planned to return the gear around 7pm on Saturday as I rented it around 8:30 the night before and I was going to meet people around that time. I noticed before leaving, after checking to make sure, that the store closed at 6pm on Saturdays and so I had to take it back on Monday. When I dropped it off I explained the hours mixup and the agent waived the late fee! Long & Mcquade has provided me with many years of rentals and I'm really glad the way they have treated me during that time.

Thanks again L & M, you were there for me once again!
