![]() ...Dawn Of The Dead. This 1978 George Andrew Romero joint is the yardstick by which all zombie movies are judged. It's such a classic that they remade it in 2004 starring Canadian Icon Sarah Polley and Pulp Fiction kingpin Ving Rhames. This homage was released before the current trend of remaking-old-movies-instead-of-inventing-new-ones even started! Members of the zombie nation could also make the same argument for Romero's 1968 Night Of The Living Dead which was also remade before the remake craze but none of my crew crewed on that set. The word out there is that zombies can't climb. It's something to consider if you are fleeing or riding out the waves. Tree house or under ground? Even the government is getting in on the preparation tips. Then there's The Zombie Safe House Competition that rewarded designers who were innovative in the ways of zombie survival, they may have even taken the name for the competition from Polish Architect Robert Konieczny's Safe House. ![]() Konieczny's zombie bunker is all Top Gun where you pull up bridges, fill in windows and roll down the metal so quick that the hoard will just walk right by without noticing! Johnny Depp was as hilarious when he played the cross dressing, B-list director in Tim Burton's Ed Wood. I should also mention this hilarious and viral clip of a zombie boy who likes turtles, and a fancy little zombie number near the end of the SNL classic People Getting Punched Before Eating - Zombie Dance Baby!!! Zombies are definitely making a comeback, even new Hollywood flesh gravitates towards these rotting beasts! I first saw her chopping up people in the dark comedy Kick Ass, now child star Chloe Moretz, will be starring in the low-budget zombie-horror 'Maggie'. 'Maggie' will revolve around a small farming family, who's daughter, Maggie, has been smitten with the zombie virus. So will Maggie beat her condition, or will she contaminate everyone around? Guess, you'll just have to wait 'til the movie comes out. Meanwhile, you can check out Chloe's in her other scream-queen projects, like Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, her vampire flick 'Let me In', or the upcoming release of 'Carrie' based on Stephen King's book. I Hate My Face, he said. Real Life Zombies make $$$! @ricothezombie @zombietraining @zombienation5/16/2012 What a gimmick! Just because he tattooed his entire body, and spent 17,000,oo on body art, this dude is everywhere. I'm talking about Rick Genest, otherwise known as 'Zombie Boy'.
The dude has his own line of shades, and has modeled for a bunch of campaigns for Therry Mugler's Nicholas Formichetti, who is the Japan Vogue editor and Gaga's stylist. He has also posed alongside the androgynous model lady-boy, Andrej Perij. I think he's kind of freaky, just like lil' weezy. ;) Even Zombies can be Fashionable! I Turn To You so you can enjoy! @GetMindBlown @wired @zombienation5/11/2012 With all of the zombie walks happening these days, I sat down with my stylist, and found these rocking looks to really undeaden the vibe, get zombified, baby! Be sure to check out my zombie-themed music video!
![]() As zombie awareness month continues, we examine some of the biggest influences on zombie culture: zombie movies. Hundreds of classic exist and new ones are being filmed/screened every day, as it is even seen in Toronto, at the annual After Dark Film Festival, where I went last year & didn't regret it!
There, I enjoyed the film Doghouse. Following a divorce, 6 lads head out to a small town in search of good times and women, only to find themselves in the middle of an experiment gone awry. Especially, because the zombies weren't the usual dead-beats who drag-along, but bloody-bitches, who ran freaky fast to reach their brain trail, baby! Because May is Zombie awareness month I've decided to post several blogs on zombie culture and I will begin in Toronto, where zombies lurk in many corners.
Rue Morgue House of Horror is the creepy little venue, hidden amidst Toronto's Junction area. It houses a horror-themed magazine going by the same name, but also to its very own radio show. And occasionally, this place opens its doors to the public. If you're lucky, you can cozy up with your date, on their pews straight from a funeral home. If you're craving extra creep factor, I dare you to explore their basement! |
